Hard of Hearing Club

The Hard Of Hearing (HUSH!) Club is provides emotional support and facilitates social networks for those with hearing loss. HUSH! Club meets monthly for a wide range of activities, including visiting speakers, trips to local places of interest, captioned theatre performances, meals out and quizzes.

The Club is open to anyone who is hard-of-hearing or has hearing difficulties, and also to their relatives, friends and carers.

HUSH is an opportunity to meet with others who have similar hearing problems. We aim to provide a friendly atmosphere that helps to relieve the stress of having a hearing loss. It is an opportunity to chat with others about your experience and receive advice on how to cope in everyday situations.

HUSH organise a varied programme of talks and demonstrations throughout the year. Special events are also organised, such as outings, quizzes, lunches and a Christmas party. At all of the meetings, speakers are briefed beforehand to speak clearly and a Loop system is in operation.

What our members say

"This club lets you be yourself."

"It gets me out - I would probably stay indoors, especially in the winter.  I also go to places that I'd not thought of."

"Since I became deaf, HUSH! Club has been a very great help and a wonderful club to attend."

"The club is important to me because in takes into account the difficulties found by [the] 'hard of hearing' when meeting socially and when trying to follow various topics in talks."

"I enjoy the meetings and meeting friends with the same problems.  Also the very interesting talks and visits, none of which I would do myself."

"A friendly, welcoming atmosphere where Christina is ever cheerful, welcoming and informative."

"I enjoy the mix of talks, visits and quizzes.  The new premises are very comfortable and have easy access."

"A great big thank you for the trip to the theatre.  Comedy of Errors was out of this world!  Thank you"
